WE TEACH LIFE RIGHTING THROUGH LIFE WRITING

The healing power of writing

The Life Righting Collective is a not for profit membership organisation. We run affordable in-person and online audio courses for anyone who wants to discover personal meaning, self-understanding and self-recovery in writing about their life experiences.

By providing a safe space to share our stories with others from all walks of life, the LRC promotes inclusiveness, cross-cultural learning and mutual understanding . We raise funds to make courses available to those in need of sponsorship and to provide platforms for these life stories to be published.

We’ve always got a good story to tell.
Keep yourself informed and inspired – sign up for our regular newsletter here.

Thank you

We are extremely grateful for the support of our funders: the Beatrice Jordaan Foundation, the Amani Harmonic Foundation and the Owls Barn Trust.

Marilyn Pigott, long-time friend and donor to the Life Righting Collective, has created an extraordinary multi-media memoir work of art called My Listening Heart.

Her memoir comprises a series of images and words, both written and narrated by Marilyn, as well as mesmerising piano pieces.

Marilyn is offering her memoir to the public free-of-charge; however, she is also requesting that as a gesture of reciprocity, it would be wonderful if people who have enjoyed reading and listening to her work,  would please make a donation to the LRC here.

Course Reviews

“The service and hospitality of SCM is fabulous. Always the range of stories and people, their writing and sharing, their vulnerability and their growth - also the readings. All of this nourishes.”

“The course opened up my creativity. I'm an analytical thinker, and typically falls back on logic to speak about issues that impact and concern me. This course allowed me to make my reflections about my experience more personal, and reflect from that in a creative manner. It was so powerful that I have been able to draw inspiration for my writing from the world of dreams.I enjoyed being the youngest member of the group, and thus having the privilege of learning from such an array of experiences, insights, knowledge and wisdom that can only come with age.I was surprised that I was able to connect with my dreams in such a powerful way. Holding them with greater insight made me feel lighter. I was also surprised at how the group could hold me during a very difficult part of the retreat. For that I have a deep appreciation and profound respect.I love the venue. It inspired writing. I loved the healthy food, it felt like my body was being nourished to support my writing. The hike was also great to promote physical exercise. I appreciate the flexibility shown for people to opt out of group sessions as and when they needed to.”

“The retreat provided a safe and encouraging space away from home and most distractions to focus on writing and feedback only!I like the structure, the co-constructed process, some of the prompts, all of the sharing, yet also the freedom to not join in and just write, walk, sleep or weep, and look after oneselfThe food was excellent, the staff and service exceptional, the place is gorgeous and the facilitator/s are gems. I will be back, and will spread the word even more zealously! Thank you so very much!!!”

“Thoughtful and knowledgeable facilitation made reading out loud in the group much easier. Collective feedback. I liked being inspired by other people's writing and the time to focus on the writing.I benefited from the synchronised writing. Being nourished in so many ways. The location. Getting a lot done.Highly recommended course. It feeds, body, mind and soul, resulting in better writing than you expected.”

“I loved the course. I must say I desperately needed a break and the course provided it all: pampering, inspiration, creativity, rest and community. I got useful feedback that allowed me to improve my writing so it became more alive. I also learnt about life from the other participants' life stories.I enjoyed the sense of community and was VERY inspired by the others' writing. I so enjoyed 'being held' by Dawn and the others. I felt very safe because of the space that Dawn created.I was surprised by how much I learnt in those couple of days. And how quickly I felt close to the others. I think this was due to the impeccable integrity of the emotional space. I would like to do this course again, maybe next year.”
