"To Get To The Moon is an example of how I took a real traumatic event that is disturbing, and extrapolated it into a completely fictional scenario. In the process I explored the feelings around the experience, and found out more about myself and my responses to the situation. This is one of the powerful functions of creative practice. Putting trauma down on the page and working with it as a creative project can help us to put the event down emotionally, helping us to come to terms with the difficult and in other ways immutable aspects of life. It can comfort and contain us even as the creative process turns the straw and shards of our lives into gold." Dawn Garisch
